Abstract
We study a discrete dissipative dynamical system which presents a
transition to turbulence via intermittency. At the instability
threshold, this model displays a self-similar structure analogous
to that of Mandelbrot's noise models. The 1/f type of spectrum
obtained suggests that such spectra can originate from dynamics
deterministic in the short term though unpredictable in the long
term, which is at the centre of the present understanding of the
transition to turbulence.
